Health entry details
Rules and health recommendations change. Use this overview to prepare questions for your physician; immigration officers and airlines apply official notices on the day you travel — we cannot guarantee every line below stays current indefinitely.
Yellow fever certificate
Tanzania may require proof of yellow fever vaccination if you arrive from, or transit for more than twelve hours through, a listed endemic country. Passport-style yellow cards are inspected at immigration.
- Carry the original vaccination certificate — phone photos are sometimes refused
- Infants, pregnancy and contraindications need a doctor-signed exemption letter where applicable — never rely on rumours online
- Your airline may ask at check-in — match their requirements to Tanzania's listed rules before departure day
Routine & travel vaccines
A travel-health clinic routinely discusses hepatitis A and B, typhoid, tetanus booster, influenza and meningococcal updates depending on your medical history.
- Book vaccination appointments six to eight weeks before travel when possible — some regimes need multiple doses
- Bring an up-to-date list of allergens and prescriptions so clinicians can tailor advice safely
Malaria
Coastal areas and most safari regions carry malaria risk. Chemoprophylaxis is prescribed — not purchased over a counter on faith — alongside bite avoidance after dusk with repellent and long sleeves.
Food & water
- Drink sealed bottled water unless your lodge filtration is explicitly endorsed for drinking
- Peel fruits yourself; choose hot, freshly cooked meals in busy kitchens when eating outside reputable lodges
- Our trips usually include safe water in vehicles — refill your bottle with what staff provide
Altitude & chronic conditions
Kilimanjaro routes cross high-altitude physiology quickly. Discuss cardiovascular or respiratory diagnoses, medications and sleep-apnoea equipment with both your specialist and expedition doctor if you trek with us.
Personal medical kit
Copy prescriptions, blister plasters, rehydration sachets and your preferred pain relief — see also our safari packing list for broader bag contents.
